Joint Articulation & Mobilisation
Helping Your Joints Move Better and Feel Looser
This hands-on technique uses controlled, rhythmical movements to improve the way your joints move and feel. It’s especially useful if you’re feeling stiff, restricted, or out of sync.
Each treatment is adapted to your body, using anything from gentle guidance to more active motion depending on what you need. While the video gives a general idea, your session will always be tailored to how your body responds on the day.
Joint Articulation & Mobilisation FAQ
What is joint articulation or mobilisation?
Joint articulation is a hands-on technique used to gently move a joint through its natural range of motion. It helps improve mobility, reduce stiffness, and restore ease of movement. Mobilisation refers to a similar process, where controlled, repetitive movements are used to encourage better joint function and reduce restriction.
What does it feel like?
Most people find it comfortable and even relaxing. The movements can range from very gentle and slow to more firm and rhythmic, depending on what your body needs. You stay fully clothed, and I guide the joint through specific patterns of motion while monitoring how it responds.
Can it be painful or cause soreness?
It shouldn’t be painful during the session. Some people feel a mild ache or soreness afterwards, usually lasting no more than 24 to 48 hours. This is a normal response as your body adjusts to the changes. Many people feel no discomfort at all — it really depends on your individual response.
Why do you use this technique?
Articulation and mobilisation help restore natural movement to joints that may feel stiff, restricted, or underused. By creating space and encouraging movement, we can reduce tension in surrounding tissues, support circulation, and give your nervous system new input that helps calm pain signals.
Is it just for treatment, or do you use it in assessments too?
Both. These techniques are often used during assessment to feel how a joint moves and identify areas of restriction or imbalance. This hands-on feedback helps guide the treatment approach and tailor it more specifically to what your body needs.
Will this be part of my treatment?
It often is, but only if it’s appropriate for you. I’ll always explain what I’m doing and why. Everything is adapted to your comfort and goals, so if something doesn’t feel right for you, we’ll adjust the approach.
